YAWI is revolutionizing the education and technology landscape for women and girls by prioritizing feminist technology through its STEM Initiative and Career Pathways program. YAWI is dedicated to eliminating gender inequality gaps by directly addressing disparities in education, STEM and technology access. This strategy also confronts systemic and cultural barriers, advocates for women’s rights and combats tech-facilitated gender-based violence (GBV), while leveraging technology as a proactive tool to prevent and eliminate all forms of gender-based violence. A fundamental component of YAWI’s approach is its comprehensive mentorship project, which provides targeted support to both school-going girls and young women who are out of school. For girls in school, the program establishes connections with accomplished women leaders and STEM professionals who offer expert advice on educational options, career exploration, and strategies for overcoming obstacles in male-dominated fields. This personalized mentorship fosters the development of essential skills, cultivates self-confidence and inspires a vision of diverse, attainable futures. For out-of-school young women, YAWI’s program delivers practical technology training and hands-on digital literacy education. Mentors guide participants in mastering relevant technologies, accessing critical information—including sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)—and leveraging digital skills for employment and entrepreneurship. The initiative also prioritizes the creation of safe and supportive online environments, empowering women and girls to participate fully and securely in the digital world and utilizes digital platforms to raise awareness, report incidents, and access support services related to GBV. By offering targeted career guidance, skill-building, and mentorship, YAWI ensures that women and girls are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and confidence necessary to pursue education, secure meaningful employment, and achieve economic independence.
